What is Black Friday?

Although we are used to celebrating it, sometimes we’re not clear on the origin of these discount days. This tradition comes from the United States, where prices are reduced on the Friday after Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Black Friday, which in 2024 is on November 29th, marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Many believe it’s called Black Friday because merchants' bank accounts go from being in the red to having profits, represented in black on balance sheets, thanks to these deals. Others say its origin is in the traffic jams that occurred on American roads when discounts were only available in physical stores. In fact, some refer to this day as Crazy Friday.
